Construction Review, Oversight & Detail Design

Examples of past construction oversight projects by J&A Enterprises

  • Large NOAA Research Vessel - J&A was contracted for construction oversight on a large research vessel for NOAA. J&A’s responsibility included the detailed design of noise and vibration control treatments that were previously only vaguely described in the contract documents. The tasting included design oversight of propulsion systems and accommodations, as well as special treatments to reduce sonar self-noise.

  • Large passenger Ferry - J&A was contracted by a major municipality to perform oversight and construction reviews for a series of large commuter passenger ferries. In this capacity we identified several overtreated areas where, by FEA analysis, we were able to justify reducing the heavy treatments, resulting in significant cost savings and improved stability margins, while still meeting the noise and vibration specification requirements.

  • Very Large American Yacht - J&A included construction oversight in a large power yacht project for which we had done the noise and vibration treatment design. Through inspections and construction review meetings, we enabled the delivery of a yacht that complied with the tight noise and vibration specifications, to the great pleasure of the captain and the yacht owner.

  • 40’ Day Boat – J&A provided design/oversight for a builder of high-quality boats. Our work, funded jointly by the naval architect and the construction shop, has helped produce a boat that has earned a reputation for smooth, quiet operation.

  • NOAA Research vessel – J&A has provided oversight for a NOAA research vessel currently under construction, including detailed design of noise and vibration treatments, construction visits and factory acceptance testing. This task will continue on through the builder’s sea trials, where J&A will be involved as a follow-on task.
